As of March 2025 I am available as a self-employed consultant related to my activities revolving around “(Modern?) Software Development“. I decided to launch this new stage of my professional life as a logical next step following my twenty years-spanning journey as a software developer, trainer, consultant, craftsman, lecturer and speaker (in the order of career progression).
The initial focal point of my consulting activities will be my recently finalized talk „Solutions For (Modern?) Software Development – Approximations from a 20 years-long journey“, which had been in the back of my head for years. “Back in the days” the structure of the “to-be-created talk“ was – and still is:
- Effectively managing complexity (aka: „The Code“)
- Effectively managing cognitive load (aka: „The Distraction“)
- Effectively performing human interactions (aka: „The Team“)
- Learning how we as humans tick (aka: „The Human Factor“)
Filling the outline with „life“, and thereby ordering my thoughts, summed up my take on twenty years of „(Modern?) Software Development“ as follows:
- The Status Quo – „The Cloud”
- The Real Challenge – “The Cloud”
- Management of complexity – (d)MiB
- Management of complexity – Check your metaphors
- Management of cognitive load – Attention
- Management of cognitive load – Distractions
- Management of cognitive load – Inconsistencies
- Human interactions – The Project Management Triangle
- Human interactions – The Software Management Triangle
- Human interactions – This thing called trust…
- Human interactions – What matters most in IT?
- Human interactions – The learning organization
- How we humans tick – The way we operate…
- How we humans tick – The Dreyfus-Model
- How we humans tick – Cognitive biases
- How we humans tick – Sustainable pace
- Ok now, Alex: What is the goal?
